A Giveaway

Well, I think it's time for some sort of giveaway - in honor of my Mom who always thought of others before herself. She was a great person to make gifts for because she would wear or use everything you gave her. She used to say that she never understood why so many people would go to the stores and return their gifts after the holidays - and I can honestly say that she never returned any gift she received. She wore the scarves that my sister and I knit for her, the fleece coat I sewed, the felted hat I made, even the apron I made for her so very long ago that I doubt my sewing skills were that great. And so many other things. When she died, my sister said that the beaded Odessa hat I had given her last year was on the nightstand next to her bed. I always love making things for people that I know are going to use them.

So, let's give some stuff away. There will definitely be a book - "Spin to Knit" very nicely signed by the author, Shannon Okey. And there will probably be some fiber and/or yarn. Now, you ask, what do you need to do to possibly get such wonderful prizes? Please leave a comment and tell about something wild/crazy that you have done. It doesn't have to be the craziest thing but should be something a little out there. Here is my contribution. About ten years ago, I took a trip to New Zealand with my parents. My husband didn't want to go, but I figured this was a good chance to see a place I had always wanted to travel too. Plus, I'd get to spend some fun times with my Mom and Dad. One morning, we stopped at a place where there was the opportunity to bungy jump off of a bridge (it was run by AJ Hackett Bungy and it was at the Kawarau Bridge). Sometimes, I get this weird feeling when I am faced with something I know I will (most likely) never have the chance to do again. I think it is because I hate to think of saying "I wish I had...". So, I decided to jump. They give you the option of jumping with someone and I decided to go this route, because I knew I would never, voluntarily, dive head first off of a bridge. It was quite a wild feeling, bouncing up and down on a huge rubber band and then hanging upside down while they get you into the boat. And that jump - yeah, I would never have done it on my own. I remember grabbing very tightly to that girl who jumped with me. But, I'm glad I did it and will never have to say "I wish I had!".

OK - now it's your turn. Have fun with it!!

Oh geez. I haven't done all that many crazy things. I got a tattoo and that was pretty wild for me. Is that good enough? ;-)

I have never done anything that crazy or even as crazy as a tattoo! ;-)
Thank you for the GORGEOUS yarn...a proper thank you is coming.

There is no way I would ever do that, but I admire that you have.

The craziest thing I can think of is when my boyfriend in high school and I where in a contest where we had to hit a target on a runway with a water balloon from a 4 passenger Cessna. He flew, I dropped the balloons. We had to start high, buzz down low to drop the balloon then fly back up high again, since this was taking place in a canyon in the Rockies. Best out of three won. I don't remember if we won or not. High School was a long time ago!

Oh My....I am soooo not crazy...come to think of it I'm sorry I missed out on that phase in my life! LOL!! In the late 70's I was deeply in love with a man that was a strip coal miner....so I became a certified coal miner in order to talk to him about his work and understand what he did. I was the only woman that passed the course and became a certified coal miner at that time. Alas....the love didn't last...but I did learn I could NEVER be a coal miner!! I don't like the dark!!!!

I guess for me the actually one I have done was apply for a job that I knew in my head and heart that I would not get due to certain ideas the hiring management believed. Now if you count next week's escapades, that would REALLY be true because I never thought I would EVER go to NYC without my husband let alone stand in the Today Show crowd.

bungee jumping - yikes!
Let's see, the craziestthing I ever did was back when I was in college, and was in Europe studying for about 9 months. During one spring break, I took a trip all by myself on a night bus to Sweden, didn't speak the language, didn't know anyone, didn't have a place lined up to stay. It was spur of the moment and totally a blast! A once-in-a-lifetime kind of journey.

Oh gosh, I would say going to Disneyland on Spring break right after finishing my B.A. and meeting, and then marrying, a German guy standing in line at one of the rides would be my crazy thing. We met on St. Patrick's Day and married one year and a week later. I've been living in Germany ever since. That was 13 years ago. Everyone said I was crazy to do it, so I think this qualifies. :)

I was 18 & dating some guy who was a few years than me & a manger at a local bar/restaurant. A bunch of the restaurant crew decided to go Skydiving.....I so wanted to impress him - so I went to! After a 6 hour course I "static lined" jumped out of a plane. Of course I had never flown before that day & discovered I was afraid of flying & afraid of heights. I am still to this day a white-knuckle flyer.

Not to copy Carole, but I'm going to copy Carole. :) I'm not very brave about doing daring things, so the only thing I can think of is when I let my daughter talk me into us getting tattoo's together. I like my tattoo but it's going to look pretty silly in another 20 years.

I haven't done a lot of crazy things so far - but I'm young, so give me time!

Perhaps the craziest was taking off with very little notice to go volunteer at a music festival in another province. Or maybe it was dropping out of high school (don't worry, I ended up going back).

I hope more people share their stories. I'm having fun reading them.

Ok Lisa here goes. When I was a teenager, my boyfriend and I decided to go swimming one evening. There was a great place in Westport that sold in ground pools but the whole display area was fenced in. We waited until dark, drove the car up to the fence, hopped over and went swimming. We didn't get caught and we had a great time. I later married and divorced this same person. I should have known when he talked me into this that soemthing wasn't tight. :)

Okay, only one thing comes to mind. I tried to think of something else, but I couldn't and I guess this shows how desparate I am for new yarn. When I was 9 months pregnant with my 2nd child, my husband was finishing his dissertation for his Ph.D. at Baylor University in Waco, TX. I was not allowed to work, and since we lived in the country, my husband didn't want me staying home alone. So I would drive into town with him every day and read or whatever at the library while he worked. He had a carrol that was actually like an enclosed closet. It had a door and everything. Well, one day I got really bored. I didn't know how to knit at the time. Imagine??? Anyway, we went into the carrol/closet and well......yep! Nine months pregnant in a Baptist University's library! Pretty crazy!

Lisa, I have nothing so crazy to add - I did get a tattoo on my 42nd birthday. And, thanks for your comment on my blog! I agree - the steeked vest from Noro Silk Garden is calling my name! Have a great day!
